from the back of my head and to the front door / I can see this place while I roam around / filled with emptiness / walls are falling down / it’s the structure of this house / and the emptiness surrounds / down on the sidewalk / visions of mansions / filled with those who love us most / and out on the front lawn / those who are nameless congregate and dissipate / go to the trees / where we used to read stories of reckless and valor / go to the trees / where we used to see our lives in a delicate manner / run to the sea / where we used to see the depths of our imagination / take hold the stream and get your self free / you’ll never survive in a ghost town / strive thrive run from me now hide from me now

maybe if I could speak English you would understand me / I already do / its just not the kind we’d like to / I wish I was from England so whenever I sing it sounds perfect / when the words they roll off of my tongue / I’d get all the girls just like you / and with my ease they’d all sing / but it’s all just whistling Dixie / I’m a Yankee but I’m honest / can’t you see that I still want it / let’s cross the sea / check out the scene / you’d still look better to me / must be hard to know you’ve got it made / appreciate / imitate
4.
lately it seems like my friends are all ghosts / they’re here but out of sight / so choose friends with care / you become what they are / and master your habits well / before they all can master you / haunted by vices / and then you’re known as used to be / just like Mel Clark is / ghosts and girls will haunt you / when days are good / are the days we miss the old you / you’re style is so great and you always look good / but the later it gets you fade into the night / and our conversations lose all of their breath / because you’re so consumed with your second-rate life / we all know life gets harder with years / coping with our fears make us stronger / but you just escape / problems all around you / just break the tide that swept you under / don’t feed the ghosts that keep you under
5.
Birdz 03:10
it’s the trees I envy / because they’ll never leave / this sight and sound / if you’re a bird / then I’m a bird / and we’ll leave this spot / we’ll leave each other
6.
we sit at the wall to watch the tide roll / it carries my hopes and dreams / the trees guard the lake to keep them all safe / the moon watches over too / it reflects / it refracts / like the thoughts in my head / I wish that we could sail away / gone for days / maybe never come back / we’ll just sit at the dock to rest our legs / we’ve been running too long because life gets harder with years / there’s a place where we can go to get away / it stays the same but we’re the ones who change / let’s name our fears and get away

about

"It's hard to find music that stays true to its roots, appeals to a wide audience, and contains a sort of depth that makes it truly relevant, while still remaining accessible to each and every person that takes an interest. 10 Paces, Fire has come up with some kind of black magic voodoo formula that satiates all of these requirements, and still surpasses expectations with clearly-burning brilliance and passion that makes it serious, light-hearted, and "underground" enough for snobbish hipsters. Lakes Refract & Lakes Reflect is a beautifully complex album in many ways, yet is completely down to earth at the same time. With tastes of everything from Moonlit Sailor to Manchester Orchestra to Minus The Bear, the album is emotional, exciting, deep, exhilarating, calming, creative, and most importantly, fun." - Muzik Dizcovery

With "Lakes Refract & Lakes Reflect," 10 Paces, Fire took a more natural and live approach to recording than their previous release, recording much of the album's tracks in single-takes performed all together at one time. The composition and writing style of the album reflects a blend of Native, Foals, TTNG, Minus the Bear, Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, and Explosions in the Sky.
